Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso will return to Formula One with Renault for the 2021 season, the workforce introduced Wednesday.
“Renault DP World F1 Team is happy to affirm Fernando Alonso alongside Esteban Ocon in its driver lineup for the 2021 season,” Renault stated in a press release.
Alonso, who has notched up 32 wins and 97 podiums in 314 Grand Prix begins, will change Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo, who’s McLaren-bound on the finish of this season.
Alonso, who gained his two world championship titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006, stated the French workforce had afforded him his “fondest recollections” in Formula One.
“Renault is my household,” the 38-year-old Spaniard stated.
“It’s a fantastic supply of delight and with an immense emotion I’m returning to the workforce that gave me my likelihood in the beginning of my profession and which now provides me the chance to return to the very best stage.”
Alonso left Formula One in 2018 after 4 fruitless years at McLaren and is due to make a 3rd try to win the Indianapolis 500 with McLaren in August.
Alonso stated he had purchased into Renault’s challenge for the approaching season.
“Their progress this winter provides credibility to the aims for the 2022 season and I’ll share all my racing expertise with everybody from the engineers to the mechanics and my teammates,” he stated.
“The workforce needs and has the means to get again on the rostrum, as do I.”
