Gary Neville slammed Paul Pogba for an “embarrassing” handball that gave West Ham a penalty in Wednesday’s Premier League conflict with Manchester United.
In first-half damage time, Pogba threw up his arms to dam a fierce shot from Declan Rice contained in the United field, permitting Michail Antonio to provide the Hammers the lead from the spot.
A VAR examine was wanted to award the spot-kick after referee Paul Tierney appeared to suppose the ball had struck Pogba within the face.
Once the replays confirmed the shot had clearly hit the World Cup winner’s fingers, Neville stated on Sky Sports: “He’s in massive, massive bother Paul Pogba. He’s given away a penalty and pretended it is hit his head.
“It’s garbage from him. Rubbish. And to suppose l thought somewhat bit sorry for him. I believed he had taken a whack within the head. Embarrassing.
“It’s a penalty. It’s a no brainer. It’s a penalty. You do not do this.”
Fellow former United full-back Patrice Evra stated Pogba would doubtless have been sporting a bloodied nostril had the ball hit him, with Rice having put a lot behind the strike.
“As quickly as I see Paul arise and his face was soaking [wet] and I did not see any blood, I knew he’d used his fingers,” Evra stated on Sky Sports.
“It’s a giant, massive mistake. Paul knew and we have got the VAR.
